Once more, with feeling
So. I have talked to a few of you in mah DMs these past few days. And one of the things I hear A LOT is that, “I’m bad at this because the demons don’t talk to me. I chant, I summon, I do spells and offerings, and no one answers.”
And I ask, everytime, “how do you expect them to answer?”
Over and over, and not just these past few days but since the start of this blog, I hear: “I don’t know. A sign, a voice in my head, a controlled hallucination, something.”
So here, again, is Auntie Mara’s protips for talking to demons, and to any kind of spirit or deity ever. Obvs, you should put up a circle, shield, ward, whatevs.
Tip #1: unless you are just giving a gift for devotional purposes, the offering comes AFTER they show up.
Particularly with demons, an offering to show up constitutes a bribe, and demons are leery of accepting gifts without negotiating what you want. Think about it. Your friend texts you.
“Come see me. I have cake.”
What’s the first thing that pop into your head?
“What do they want?”
Yeah. Offer AFTER asking what they want.
Tip #2: have a way for them to talk to you on hand.
In the above example, your friend offers cake. But they then block your number. You can’t talk back. Your friend lives eight hundred miles away. The only way for you to talk to them about why they want you to eat their cake is to spend a shit ton of money and effort to get to them physically. You will probably not go have any of that delicious cake.
Before you summon, grab a spirit board, pendulum, tarot cards, something, ANYTHING that they can use to talk to you long distance. I like pendulums because the answer is immediate and clear. Not all of y’all have the ability to hear spirits in your head. That takes either a natural gift, or a shit ton of practice, and if you have neither, starting lut you’re gonna get real discouraged and probably quit. And for the record, I have both a natural gift AND a shit ton of practice, and I STILL use a pendulum.
Tip #3: how the fuck to use a pendulum.
Call them. Demons are great spirits to start with because they phone numbers, called enns. Chant the enn while holding ze pendulum.
If it doesn’t move, they’re not going to talk to you. Eat some ice cream and then try another demon.
If it traces a clockwise circle, the demon is saying hello. Congrats, you’re talking to a lord of hell.
Back and forth is yes. Side to side is no. Counterclockwise is goodbye. Chanting the enn until it spins clockwise again can get them to hold up, but if it says goodbye, best let them go.
Ask your questions. Ask a lot of questions. Profit.
This has been Auntie Mara’s tips for summoning demons. Go forth and have fun.
Just a couple things to add: pendulums don’t always use these motions to mean these things. Back and forth for yes and side to side for no is very standard, but some people experience circles (clockwise or counterclockwise) to mean “maybe.” When I talk to Lucifer, a counterclockwise circle usually is a sign that he’s manifesting his energy more strongly in the room–moving the pendulum widdershins seems to help him do this. It’s definitely not a goodbye. And I NEVER see clockwise circles from him. So your mileage may very.
Choose what you want pendulum motions to signify and stick to that, and I find demons will usually use the pendulum language you have chosen. ’
One last thing: Asmoday has been hijacking my pendulum a lot lately while I try to talk to Lucifer, and will even claim to be Lucifer. Helpfully, though, according to the lore if you ask straight out “Art thou Asmoday?” he is compelled to answer truthfully. “Are you fUcKiNg ASMODAY?!” seems to work the same. Consult your lesser key and do some googling about demon lore, you’ll likely find other helpful tips like this which will assist in making positive identifications and making sure you have dialed the right number.
Good luck!
Excellent additions from the awesome dude that turned me onto pendulums in the first place. Thanks!
I did that??? YAY!
