I was a secular agnostic atheist before becoming a spiritual polytheist. The skepticism has helped me greatly. Still to this day it helps prevent me from giving into superstition or falling to the dogma of those who claim to “truly know” without evidence. The scientific method is a powerful tool, and when applied to magick and philosophy it becomes more than just an aid in understanding the natural world, but an aid in understanding the psychological, spiritual, and theological one.
