Day Four: What was your religion/belief before this? How has it influenced you as a Luciferian/Satanist?

dark-apheresis:

I was a secular agnostic atheist before becoming a spiritual polytheist. The skepticism has helped me greatly. Still to this day it helps prevent me from giving into superstition or falling to the dogma of those who claim to “truly know” without evidence. The scientific method is a powerful tool, and when applied to magick and philosophy it becomes more than just an aid in understanding the natural world, but an aid in understanding the psychological, spiritual, and theological one.

not intending to sound creepy, but would you ever consider attempting the Babalon working with someone? and if so, do you think it has to be so hetero?

left-hand-path-notes:

No idea. Until about thirty seconds after I laid eyes on this ask, I thought the Babalon Working was fictional. I’ll happily look into it just out of curiosity, but I am deeply suspicious of anything involving Aleister Crowley and L. Ron Hubbard. That and, while my understanding is that it’s supposed to summon a feminine force, being, or person, I have no idea what’s involved or what the actual intended purpose of the damn thing is.

Now. That said. I am all for pop culture magic, and I firmly believe that if you scream into the void, something will answer back. So you do you.

Since I’m not versed in it I can’t tell you whether it could be altered to be less hetero. My inclination is to say that anything can be altered if you work at it hard enough, but at the point where you’ve diverged a certain amount, you might as well consider the original to be inspiration for a working of your own.

Thanks for the ask, friendo!

The Babalon working was basically Jack Parsons whacking off onto Enochian tablets while L Ron Hubbard watched awkwardly. It possibly resulted in Marjorie Cameron showing up, which was a mixed blessing. I think there are better ways to attempt Babalon workings. Parson’s was, from a magical standpoint, arguably a huge failure.

TL;DR of my last post: Remember The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Sometimes you don’t think magic is all that powerful. You think you’ll only get one animate broom, if that. And then suddenly you have three million animate brooms and you are drowning in the waters of your own confusion and ignorance and feeling like Mickey Mouse in an animated short.

(Amusingly, the old tale of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice was also recounted in Compendium Maleficarum. Witch hunting manuals have so much accidental wisdom in them.)
